One of the most beloved sports practiced by Qataris with great passion is falconry. The hunting season typically begins with the onset of winter and continues until its end. In the past, this sport was practiced on foot or on horseback and camelback, and hunting was mostly available in nearby areas. Nowadays, falconers travel long distances or even go abroad for this purpose.

Among the most important types of falcons in Qatar are the “Hur” (Saker Falcon), “Shaheen” (Peregrine Falcon), “Wakri,” and “Sanjari,” but the most commonly used types are the Hur and Shaheen. The primary prey for falcons includes birds such as the “Kawaran” (a type of bird), “Houbara bustard,” pigeons, partridges, wild rabbits, and sometimes even gazelles.
