It is a guide to knowledge related to wild plants, including trees, shrubs, pasture plants, medicinal plants, plants eaten by humans, and various types of grasses, which are estimated in the State of Qatar at 300 wild plants. These plant species are organized according to a system of times and seasons determined according to the movement of stars, constellations, and risings, and the accompanying weather conditions, i.e. changes that occur in winds, temperature, and rain, and the resulting humidity and evaporation, in addition to the nature of the soil and its terrain of belts, meadows, naqyan, sand dunes, sabkhas, fashoot, khors, and coastal cliffs. It monitors the common names of each plant, their presence in the oral cultural heritage, the names of regions, meadows, valleys, and plains that derived their names from wild plants, and the types of plant seeds that are visible to the naked eye and those that are not visible to the naked eye, and lists their locations, as well as their uses and benefits. It also provides a list of uses of wild plants, for example:
– The “Awsaj” tree, which is used to treat toothache, cracked lips, coughs, and stomach diseases, and to prevent miscarriage.
– The “Qarm” tree, which is used to stabilize soil and protect beaches from erosion, and is a food source for camels and cows, and improves the conditions for developing fish stocks.
– The “Athl” tree, which is used as windbreaks, to stabilize sand dunes, and for afforestation.
– The “Raqruq” shrub, which is essential for the growth of the “Faq” plant, which is rich in proteins.
– Some grasses are used as food for humans, such as “Hawa”, which is eaten fresh, and “Ruglah”, which is eaten fresh and cooked.
– Most wild plants are used as food for livestock and fuel.
– They maintain the life cycle of many reptiles and insects that are beneficial to the soil.
