The Qatari thobe is the official and traditional dress in the State of Qatar, worn by men and boys on all occasions and celebrations. Although the thobe is found in other Gulf countries, the Qatari thobe has its own distinguishing features. In addition to its generally similar appearance to other countries, as it is a white garment with long sleeves and has a pleat called “kasra” in the front and two pleats “kasratan” in the back, what distinguishes it from other thobes in other Gulf countries is the shape of the collar that distinguishes it. Its colors and types of fabrics used in it vary according to the seasons. In the summer, men wear a thobe made of light white fabric in different shades, while in the winter, men wear a thobe in dark colors and rely on heavy fabric that suits the nature of the weather. Many types of fabrics are used in tailoring the thobe, some light and some heavy, and this depends on the degree of blending of the threads with each other, such as cotton and polyester. Men and boys wear it on all occasions and celebrations.
