These are the changes that occur in: winds, temperature, clouds, rain, fog, and eclipses; due to the moving stars, and God Almighty swore by them, saying: “So I swear by the positions of the stars, and indeed, it is a great oath, if you only knew.” This oath by the positions of the stars, and their effect on the planet Earth, on which we live, is of great importance in our lives and livelihoods. In the past, before the arrival of lighting, the stars were closely linked to people’s lives, and their knowledge of them was something imposed on them by the nature that surrounded them from every side, so we find them mentioned a lot in their poems, proverbs, and poetry, and even their writings, so it entered through this door into their literature and sciences, so they cared about them and knew their values, places, times, seasons, and weather conditions, and not only that, but they wove around them many myths that suit their places and conditions. Since the knowledge associated with the Hijri (lunar) months and the accompanying Gregorian (solar) months, the stars, zodiac signs and their accompanying ascendants, is the basis for knowing the weather, the people of Qatar knew many calendars, including the Qatar Calendar, which we take as an example from its version numbered (63) for the year 1439 AH, which came as follows: “The period from 13 Muharram to 25 Muharram 1439 AH, coincides with the period from 3 October to 15 October, corresponding to the ascendant of Al-Sarfa, which is the third ascendant of the ascendants of the autumn season, and corresponds to 11 of the Libra constellation, and 41 of the Suhail star.” This ascendant came as follows: “Al-Sarfa was named thus because the heat departs when it rises, and the cold when it falls. It is a single bright star, and around it are small eclipses. It is the first of the beneficial rain, and the beginning of the days of Al-Wasmi, which grows truffles, and types of herbs and flowers.” Alfalfa, legumes and winter vegetables are grown there – and it is said: When the sun rises: every craftsman will scheme – and eating cold, dry food is avoided, and eating beef and eggplant is forbidden. Its name among farmers is (the last of the stars of Suhail), and its number of days is 13 days. Accordingly, the meteorology determines a set of knowledge about: the times of eating and drinking, choosing the appropriate time for treatment in folk medicine, guiding ships at sea, the times of wild plants, the types of suitable crops, and the times of settlement, migration and land travel.
